Oodua Progressive Union (OPU) is a pan Yoruba organization formed by Iba Gani Abiodun Ige Adams the 15th Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland in 2011 to create an enabling platform for all the sons and daughters of Oduduwa in Diaspora. Oodua Progressive Union (OPU) is a non-governmental, non-religious organization, formed to foster unity among the Yoruba race and provide a platform for all Yoruba sons and daughters in Diaspora to Work for the common interest of Yorubaland.
The organization was born in Great Britain in 2011 but was first launched in Mumbai India in November 2012. On September 7th 2013 Great Britain was launched,Germany was launched on September 10th 2013,Pre launching of France was on the 12th of September 2013, Holland on September 14th 2013, Austria on the 16th of August 2014,Sweden on the 29th of November 2014 and official launching of France on the 5th of December 2014.
Spain, South Africa, Turkey, Italy, UAE, Republic of Ireland, cyprus, Malaysia, Switzerland, Uganda, Kenya, Mali, Senegal, Gambia, Finland, Canada, Luxembourg, Belgium and all other countries have also been launched.
On the last count, OPU now exists in 95 countries across the world.The organization is saddled with the responsibility of re-awakening the dead spirit of the culturally diverse Yoruba nation with a strong determination and objective of emancipating, liberating, orientating and re-orientating the Yoruba race.
The organisation is of the firm belief that with a common sense of purpose, the Yoruba race can work towards realizing the dreams and aspirations of our forefathers.
To create an enabling economically viable platform, promoting peace, unity and harmonious existence among all Yoruba sons and daughters in Diaspora, through a reawakening and strengthening of huge culturally diverse and ancestral heritage of Yoruba nation with ideas ,consolidation and working together for the common interest of the Yoruba race.
To work for the political and economic emancipation of Yoruba race. OPU is determined to build Oodua House in each country where the organization exists to serve as a rallying point for all people of Yoruba race in the Diaspora.
The Oodua House in each country will also offer Yoruba sons and daughters opportunity to generate funds.To offer a platform for assistance of any form for all Yoruba sons and daughters in their country of residence.
OPU is dedicated to promoting and defending the rich cultural heritage of the Yoruba race among our people in Diaspora. To work towards ensuring the establishment of true federalism in Nigeria.
OPU seek to attract interest and research and teaching of Yoruba language to Yoruba sons and daughters in the Diaspora in order to keep them abreast of their history and background.
Part of the vision of OPU is to create a platform where Yoruba sons and daughters in the Diaspora can meet to offer support for one another and aggregate the interest of their race.
