COMMUNIQUE OF THE 2025 EDITION OF OPU WORLD CONGRESS IN IBADAN

No fewer than 200 Delegates from the 102 countries across the six continents of the world were in attendance at this year's OPU World Congress.
The Highest Decision- Making organ of the OPU and the delegates deliberated on sundry pressing issues. At the end of the meeting,the foremost Yoruba diaspora organization resolves as follows:

(1)That Ijebu-Ode will be hosting the 2026 edition of the OPU World Congress and the Ogun State governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun will be the host, while the Awujale of Ijebu land HRM Oba Sikiru Adetona will be the Royal host at the 2026 Congress.
(2) That Olorogun Kayode Orenisi was appointed as the Chairman of the 2026 Edition of the OPU World Congress in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State. The Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland and Global Convener of OPU, Iba (Dr) Gani Abiodun Ige Adams asked North America to deliberate and choose the General Secretary for WC 2026.
(3) That Ms Modupeola Bolanle Shodimu was appointed as the Iya Oodua Worldwide of our organisation.
(4)OPU expressed appreciation to the Oyo State governor, His Excellency Engr. Seyi Makinde for sending a powerful delegations - two of his commissioners to the conference and dinner respectively.
(5) OPU also expressed deep appreciation to the Olubadan of Ibadan land, HIM Oba Owolabi Olakulehin and Olubadan Advisory Council, for playing host to the delegates during the World Congress and sending powerful delegations to the dinner.
(6) OPU expressed sincere appreciation to the leadership of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes for sending powerful delegates, including the Chairman Chief Sulaimon Ajeniyi Ajewole, who attended the dinner in person with his Executive members.
(7)That OPU restated the need for regionalism, where the federating units will develop at their own pace.
(8)That OPU will continue to mobilize its members to redouble their efforts in spreading the OPU branches beyond the present 102 countries across the world.
(9)That OPU urges the S/West Governors, the traditional rulers to revisit the request of the Iba Gani Adams to salvage the security situation in the region.
(10)The foremost Yoruba diaspora organization condemned in strong terms the introduction of Sharia in South West region.
(11) That 2025 OPU Europe Summit will hold in Italy.
(12) That 2025 OPU African Union Summit will hold in Egypt
(13)That OPU will continue to seek unity, cohesion, as well as well the promotion of culture and tradition in Yoruba land.
(14) OPU approved a slight change in the leadership positions of the members in Europe.
